Right, I don't necessarily LOVE Labour passing a means-tested winter fuel allowance for pensioners. However, I have some thoughts. Mainly about the sheer hypocrisy of the outrage about it.

The RCPCH released a statement in response to the 2022 data on child mortality rates, and this quote should shake people to their core, but alas, classist Blighty strikes again.

"Inequalities are a major factor in causing infant deaths, and the risk of a baby dying dramatically increases with the level of maternal deprivation. We now find ourselves in a position where the mortality rate for infants living in the most deprived areas in England was almost 3 times higher than in the least deprived. This harrowing data set confirms what paediatricians have been saying for many years now – poverty is very often a matter of life and death."

When will we have a national conversation about how little we care for children living in poverty? The millions of children whose families rely on food banks? It barely felt like a conversation regarding the two-child benefits cap, and where was the uproar?

I do not believe means-tested benefits work, don't get me wrong. I think they lack any real understanding of how working families struggle to exist and how much debt many acquire to make ends meet.

I'm just really fucking tired of living in a country that is so fundamentally incapable of empathy or critical thought yet paints itself as the opposite.

A society that has over two million families using food banks, whilst we have more billionaires than ever before, is a society that is failing. It doesn't fucking work. I know it wasn't a system built to work for the working-class nor be fair, but I just wish people were more honest about the disdain they hold for the working class in England x

Just so you know, none of this is helped by middle-class lefties constantly taking thinly veiled classist attacks on working-class culture in England, i.e. poor dental health, how people talk, clothes they wear, this idea working-class folk have no cultural identity, etc.

There is so much pride in using resources our government might provide if you qualify because why shouldn't you get help? Tough spots happen, thats why these programs exist. & that's pretty cool.
